Cancer Support Post
How to support someone with cancer!
Good morning!
I get asked often what should I do to support my loved one with cancer, what should I get them, and many feel like nothing is good enough. I’m here to say that simply thinking of them and letting them know that is really a huge gift in itself.
There were many, many thoughtful and appreciated gift items, but the one that made me tear up every time was gifts for my kids. No matter what it was, I almost always teared up when someone thought of my kids. The quiet, easy gifts were really appreciated, which is what everyone sent. One of my distant relatives sent arts and supplies and craft kits. A friend sent my kids Legos. Someone got activity books from the Dollar Tree. My kids well-being was more important than mine.
Now, I know, you want to know about care packages for the adult. I’ll share a list at the bottom of helpful items, but I wanted to focus on organizations that I appreciated.
My Favorite Freebies:
Pink it Forward for Breast Cancer Fighters:
This organization services South Dakota, North Dakota Minnesota, and Montana. They are my favorite breast cancer support package provider as they sent high quality items fighters need! You can request for yourself or a loved one:
Hope Kits for Breast Cancer Fighters:
This is also a favorite as they send themed breast cancer items to fighters. It’s a nice pick me up and having a water bottle/coffee mug that says HOPE on it is so uplifting!
Phil’s Friends for any cancer fighter:
This is an uplifting organization that sends a nice care package to anyone that is fighting. They send monthly cards as well. This is a Christian organization and they pray for the fighters as well.
At Do Cancer we believe everyone should have access to the best cancer care. We are committed to sharing proven treatment plans, wellness education, carefully vetted products, and cancer program scholarships for whole-person healing.
Cancer Care Baskets
Our mission is to bring comfort and emotional support to breast cancer patients at Mount Sinai Cancer Center by creating thoughtfully curated care baskets that remind them they are seen, supported, and never alone during their healing journey.
Please share if you have other organizations you’d like added to this list! As for items to put in a care package, it really depends on the cancer fighter. I liked blankets, fuzzy socks, and lotions. Some people won’t like the smell of lotion. Some will be gifted 10 blankets! I loved a book or magazine that didn’t require much thinking power. People magazine was one of those! I also read almost the entire Woman’s Murder Club series by James Patterson. Each book built on itself, but was also a very easy read. I know, I know, you want a list, so here is a small list of items.
As always. Find Joy. It’s all around. You just have to look for it!
